Announcing the 2022
Straus Scholarship Recipients
May 2022
Thanks to your donations, the Straus Historical Society is pleased to announce that Rachel Joy Boakye, Ania Ruiz Borys, Amy P. Lyons, and Richard Stecker have been selected to each receive a $5,000 Straus Scholarship. The Straus Historical Society Scholarship Program was created with the goal of supporting the continuing education of a graduate student whose professional goal is in the field of public service.

The scholarship committee and the judges are pleased to announce John Farah and Sam Cheuk-Hin Hau as Honorary Straus Scholars for 2022.

The Straus Scholarship application period is closed.
February 2022
The application period for the 2022 Straus Scholarship is now closed. The judges will now review more than 50 applications to determine both the winners and the honorary scholars. The final decision will be announced in April/May of 2022. More information about the 2023 Scholarship will be available in the fall of 2022.

Thank you to all that applied. We had an exceptionally high caliber of applicants this year and we look forward to the award committee's decision. 

The Straus Scholarship application period is now open!

For the students of the School of International Service at American University, The Fletcher School at Tufts University, and Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs, the application will be available for submission until January 31, 2022.

We look forward to another year of incredibly accomplished applicants. The winners of the scholarships will be announced in the Spring!

September 2021
The Straus Historical Society publishes a semi-annual newsletter with historical articles, society news and events, and other noteworthy information. In August 2021, the SHS newsletter featured a front page article about the 2021 Straus Scholarship recipients, as well as the application essays they each submitted. These essays figured heavily into the award committee's decision and are a wonderful representation of the winners and their accomplishments. The scholarship committee and the judges are pleased to announce these applicants as Honorary Straus Scholars for 2021: Kelly Boehms, Alexis Cheney, Liana Kabins, Sara Lodgen, Christopher Tingley.
